Home electronics market stable in first three quarters of 2022, gfu finds
The market for home electronics products (HE), represented in the HEMIX, Home Electronics Market Index, has remained stable during the first three quarters of 2022, compared to the same period last year.
In the months from January to September 2022, total sales amounted to just under €33.7 billion, as found by gfu Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH.
With sales of more than €21.2 billion in the first three quarters of 2022, the consumer electronics segment had a 0.6% increase in sales, compared to the same period last year.
However, three segments developed differently. Consumer electronics recorded a decline in sales of 7.7% to just under €5.4 billion. Telecommunications products for private use, on the other hand, achieved a growth of 12.9% to almost €10.5 billion in sales. IT products for private use, on the other hand, declined by 10.5 percent to just under 5.4 billion euros.
In the consumer electronics segment, TV sets generated sales of just under €2.2 billion from January to September 2022, while the number of units sold fell by 17.7% to around 3.2 million TV sets.
In contrast, the audio/video accessories segment saw a renewed increase in sales, with a turnover of more than €1.1 billion, an 11.3% increase from last year.
The smartphone and wearables segments showed growth from January to September 2022, with core wearables such as fitness trackers and smart watches having a 9.9% increase in sales, totalling €960 million. The number of units increased 2.3% to a total of five million, with the average price also increasing 7.4% to €192. Smartphones saw an impressive 14% increase in sales, totalling €9.3 billion in the first three quarters of 2022.
