CARE
We buy 60% more clothing than we did 15 years ago but only keep things for half as long, with a reported 73% of textiles ending up in landfills. Studies have found if we could extend the life of 1 in 5 garments by just 10%, an estimated 6.4 million tonnes of textiles would be diverted from landfills, potentially saving 3 million tonnes of CO2 and 150 million litres of water every year.
One of the ways we damage our clothes is by washing them. Tumbling and twisting together in water and heat can cause shrinkage, piling, colour loss and surface damage.
Xeros are disrupting the traditional method of washing clothes by replacing some of the water in a washing machine with little polymer balls we call XOrbs™. Built-in during manufacture, our patented, reusable XOrbs enter and leave the drum using a specially designed system that doesn't require any user intervention. These gentle balls roll between fabrics reducing friction and abrasion in the wash whilst delivering greater wash efficacy.
In-house tests show that Xeros' Care technology (XC) can extend the lifespan of your clothes by an extra nine months, reducing your carbon, water and waste footprint by around 20-30%. Tuned to provide fabric-specific care benefits, XC can also reduce water usage by 38% whilst creating a significant uplift in cleaning performance.
Washing garments uses 20 billion cubic metres of water per year globally, enough drinking water for 228 million people. Our technologies are designed to reduce waste wherever possible, helping our resources last longer.
