i2Cool is a green and energy-efficient technology pioneer specializing in passive radiative cooling. Originated in a research team at the City University of Hong Kong, the company has brought together a world-class R&D team composed of leading professors and doctors. Its core products include electricity-free cooling coatings and films, along with a diverse range of products such as textiles, membranes, automotive solutions, and tiles. The company provides efficient, innovative energy-saving cooling solutions for various scenarios, including green buildings, industrial applications, and everyday protection. Its mission is to contribute to the creation of low-carbon cities and green communities through cutting-edge energy-saving technologies.
With over eight years of experience in passive radiative cooling technology, i2Cool’s R&D team has published more than 90 academic papers in prestigious international journals such as Science and Nature Communications. Their next-generation radiative cooling solutions have been selected for the Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus (RAISe+) Scheme, further driving innovation and development. i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling technology has been patented internationally, with multiple green product certifications granted.
Through the integration of material sciences, optics, and heat transfer theory, i2Cool has developed proprietary multi-component and multi-scale nanoparticle materials. These materials enable high-efficiency solar reflection and mid-infrared radiation, effectively emitting heat into outer space and significantly reducing solar heat absorption. This technology provides zero-energy cooling without requiring power sources and refrigerants. For example, the patented electricity-free cooling coating combines polymer blends with inorganic nanoparticles to achieve optimal optical and thermal properties, with solar reflectivity and mid-infrared emissivity both exceeding 95%. This breakthrough surpasses the 90% reflectivity barrier of traditional thermal insulation coatings. The application of this coating can reduce building surface temperatures by up to 42°C, lower indoor temperatures by 6 to 8°C, and save up to 40% on cooling system energy consumption.
CEO and co-founder Prof. Martin Zhu, a member of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Green Technology and Finance Development Committee and a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, leads the company. Co-founder Prof. Edwin Tso, ranked in the top 2% of global scientists, is the Associate Dean (Internationalisation and Outreach) & Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong. Under their leadership, i2Cool has rapidly grown into a team of nearly 100 people in two years, integrating industry, academia, and research.
Rooted in Hong Kong and with a strong presence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), i2Cool leverages the region’s innovation ecosystem and industrial advantages. The company has established independent research and operations teams in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, with a production facility in Guangzhou. This foundation supports an integrated production and supply system. i2Cool has expanded its business along the Belt and Road Initiative, establishing a solid distributor network in regions including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States, and beyond. The company continues to deepen its market penetration and is dynamically building a global business presence.
Since its founding, i2Cool has completed four rounds of financing from notable investors, including China Prosperity Capital, Hong Kong X Technology Fund, New Vision, Clear Water Bay Venture Capital, Silicon Harbor Capital, Trustar Capital, Future Times Technology, and Towngas. The company has partnered with over 100 government agencies, major developers, and industry leaders, and its products have been implemented in more than 200 projects across nearly 30 countries and regions. i2Cool’s solutions have been deployed in iconic locations like the Dubai Mall, Hong Kong Coliseum, and Hong Kong Times Square. The company has also won over 80 prestigious awards globally, including a gold medal at the TERA-Award, and the Emaar Innovation Challenge Winner in the Middle East.
i2Cool is committed to driving ESG practices and fulfilling its social responsibility. The company has actively organized public welfare initiatives, applying electricity-free cooling technology to climate-vulnerable communities. To date, the initiative has been implemented in seven cities, covering over 6,000 square meters of community projects benefiting tens of thousands of residents.
The innovative technology has been applied to nearly 650,000 square meters globally, saving over 11.9 million kWh of energy and reducing carbon emissions by millions of kilograms—equivalent to planting nearly 670,000 trees. In response to the current global climate crisis, i2Cool is committed to accelerating the global carbon reduction process and contributing to carbon neutrality and sustainable development goals.
