The Open Home Foundation was created in 2024 with one clear mission: to fight for the rights of people living in smart homes. We envision an open source alternative to Big Tech control: the Open Home, where the principles of privacy, choice, and sustainability are guaranteed.
As a Swiss non-profit organisation, we protect our projects – including the Home Assistant open source smart home platform – from corporate takeover, so we can focus resources on developing open standards and solutions for our users and community.
It also means we’re free to advocate for ethical technology: educating the wider public and holding brands to the highest of standards. Together, we’re working to make our Open Home vision a reality.
