SHIFT GmbH has been developing modular, repairable technology in Falkenberg, northern Hesse, since 2014. The owner-managed purpose-driven company builds smartphones, audio devices and accessories designed for a long service life rather than short replacement cycles. Every device opens without special tools, key modules are available individually as spare parts, and repair guides and videos are freely accessible. A deposit on each product ensures that end-of-life devices return to the manufacturer and thus back into the material cycle.
At IFA, SHIFT presents its complete current portfolio:
SHIFTed applies the principle to third-party hardware for the first time. The replacement back cover makes selected iPhone models repairable. Available as a DIY kit for experienced refurbishers, as a conversion service, and as a pre-converted, refurbished iPhone.
SHIFTphone 8, the current generation of the modular Android smartphone, with a replaceable battery, display and further modules, backed by long-term spare part availability.
SHIFTsound, the audio family consisting of the BNO over-ear headphones and the SP Bluetooth speaker. The SP is waterproof to IPX7, has ten easily replaceable modules and is made from 90 percent recycled plastics.
The accessory range rounds things out with cases, chargers, cables, LED string lights and much more, likewise built for repairability and durability. We will also be bringing along the first design prototype of our previously announced universal battery charger.
Devices at the booth can be handled, opened and tested. The team, including founder Carsten Waldeck, is available for conversations with retail partners, repair businesses, refurbishers and media.
