Franziska Giffey on IFA 2025
Foreword of IFA Paper 03 by Franziska Giffey, Senator for Economy, Energy and Public Enterprises

Dear guests, innovators and partners
from around the world,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to IFA 2025 – held under the visionary motto “Imagine the Future“. From 5th to 9th September, Berlin once again becomes the global stage for pioneering technologies, groundbreaking ideas and vibrant international exchange.
For a whole century, the IFA has been one of the world’s most important showcases for innovation. Few events capture the spirit of technological progress as powerfully as this one. It is not just a trade fair – it is a global forum of ideas, inspiration and interaction, where the future becomes tangible, where dialogue drives discovery, and where industries, innovators and creatives come together across borders.
Berlin is proud to host this remarkable event. Our city like no other stands for openness, reinvention and progress. And in today’s times of profound global changes and uncertainty, Berlin stands out more than ever as a place where the world comes together – to imagine and shape our joint future.
We are a city that welcomes international talent, fosters global partnerships and thrives on diversity. From dynamic startups to leading research institutions and from industrial strength to creative energy, Berlin offers a unique environment for those who dare to imagine and build a better tomorrow. Innovation and internationalisation are not only cornerstones of our economic policy – they are part of our identity.
IFA and Berlin have grown together over decades. The fair’s history is deeply interwoven with that of our great city. And today, we proudly continue this tradition – as an open, future-orientated metropolis and as a committed host to one of the most influential platforms for innovation worldwide.
To all visitors, exhibitors and participants: welcome to Berlin, welcome to IFA 2025, welcome to the future.

Franziska Giffey
