IFA Paper – Edition Two

Welcome to Germany and its High-Tech Agenda

Welcome to Germany and its High-Tech Agenda

Dorothee Bär MdB
Federal Minister of Research,
Technology and Space

Dear exhibitors,

dear visitors,

IFA has become much more than a Funkausstellung – a radio exhibition as it originally was – it is now a seismograph of what will characterise our future lives. Once again, in 2025 we can feel the pulse of the future here in Berlin: artificial intelligence, smart devices, digital infrastructure – the heartbeat of technology is faster than ever.

Every year it is inspiring to have such a long-established major trade show in Germany, but in times of geopolitical crises IFA is of special relevance. It brings together people from all around the world who share a commitment to bringing about progress through technology. It provides a boost for networking and for optimism and future visions.

Our goal as the Federal Government is clear: Germany will not just be a user but also a shaper of this future. With our High-Tech Agenda Germany, we are investing in key technologies – from quantum computing to microelectronics to climate-neutral energy production and mobility. We are supporting research and in particular its transfer into practice. We cannot let good ideas remain in test mode – they must become part of people’s lives – products made in Germany for health, home life, learning and so much more.

Once again this year, IFA is a mirror for innovative strength and competitiveness, and at the same time a forum for this important question: What are our goals? For me, in 2025 they definitely include technological sovereignty – the ability to master, enhance and use key technologies independently. And that is why close cooperation between research, industry and start-ups is so important to me. It’s about working together to drive that which is of value to us – both material and immaterial. Trustworthy AI is a great example of this.

So, here’s to IFA and the future! I look forward to talking with many partners from Germany and abroad at IFA. I wish you all, exhibitors and visitors alike, an inspiring time that points the way to the future.
