Markus Beckedahl

Markus Beckedahl is co-founder and head of curation of re:publica, as well as the founder of the Center for Digital Rights and Democracy. For over 25 years, he has observed, analysed and explained how the internet and key digital technological developments are shaping our societies, cultural practices and political decisions. In doing so, he has played a pivotal role in establishing a new policy field: digital and internet policy. As a prominent political commentator with an IT background, he provides critical, up-to-date and forward-looking insights into the impact of digitalisation, challenging decision-makers at all levels to envisage fairer, more sustainable and progressive digital societies. As pioneer in the field of blogging, he founded netzpolitik.org, one of Germany's most influential public-interest news outlets, and has received numerous awards in his role as editor-in-chief.
